Top Landscaping Myths

As with any subject, there is all kinds of information about landscaping floating around. It can be difficult to tell what’s fact and what’s fiction. Here’s the truth about some of the top landscaping myths:

    • More water is better. Believe it or not, not every plant needs much water. Especially if you live in an area with a lot of natural rainfall, like most of our service areas, many plants can actually drown or rot if given too much additional watering.a green frog looks confused
    • Anything that grows wild must be native. It’s become popular to select plants that are native to an area for planting. Some people assume any plant that’s growing wild in their backyard must be native to that area, but this isn’t necessarily true. Many invasive plants, such as kudzu, grow better than native plants, and can quickly take over and choke native plants. If you want to cultivate native plants, don’t assume you can select anything growing wild.
    • Everything needs to be planted in the spring. While spring is traditionally thought of as a time for planting, different plants have different growing seasons. Many can be planted in the fall, or even the winter! Just because you missed the spring planting season doesn’t mean you’re doomed to wait a whole year before being able to start your landscaping project.
    • I’ll never figure this out! You will! Landscaping can seem overwhelming, but just like any skill, it can be learned.
